About this piece

A zip-front jacket cut to sit on the hip, with the collar standing on its own and the sleeves finishing at the wrist. The thinking behind it is simple: get the size right, get the surface right, and leave everything else alone. Nothing here is decorative for its own sake. It comes in 1 colour.

Fabric and feel

A firm, evenly woven surface with a slight give. It holds its own shape rather than collapsing, sits flat where it should sit flat, and stays comfortable after a long day because nothing was over-tightened to make it look sharp.

Cut and fit

Pattern pieces are cut to a consistent grain, which is why the two sides hang the same way instead of one twisting forward. Fastenings are load-bearing: the buttons, zip or drawcord are the ones the design actually needs, not the cheapest that would hold the shape on a shelf. It is graded S/M/L/XL/2XL/3XL, and the flat measurements for every size are in the chart below.

Why the collar decides the jacket

A hip-length jacket with a full-length front opening, cut roomy enough to take a layered shirt underneath without pulling across the back. The finishing is what you notice after a month rather than in the first minute: nothing scratchy where the cloth meets skin, and no trim that starts to look tired before the fabric does. Pockets, plackets and waistbands are the parts that decide whether a garment gets worn, so they are treated as structure rather than as decoration.

Wearing it in and keeping it

Layering is where it earns its place: it sits under a jacket without bunching across the shoulders and over a base layer without pulling tight across the back. If you are between two sizes, go by the hip and chest rows rather than the letter — those are the two that decide how the garment actually falls. Between seasons, fold it rather than hanging it. A hanger is the quickest way to change the shape of a shoulder, and folding costs nothing but a shelf.

Stand collar

Holds its shape open or closed instead of collapsing at the neck.

Hip-length cut

Finishes on the hip bone, so it layers under a coat without bunching.

Reinforced stress points

Bar-tacked where a jacket is actually pulled hardest.

How we would wear it

  1. Over a shirt, collar up

The stand collar holds its shape, so it frames the neck without a scarf.

  2. Under a heavy coat

The hip-length cut means it layers without bunching at the waist.

  3. Open, over a hoodie

Cut roomy enough for the layer, and the front zip parks at the top.

  4. With straight-leg trousers

Keeps the silhouette straight from shoulder to hem.

Care

Machine washable on a cool cycle, or hand wash if you prefer. Air dry, shake out and it is ready to go again; there is nothing here that needs pressing or reshaping after washing.

Questions we get asked

It stands on its own without being rigid, so it stays up when the jacket is open and sits flat when it is zipped.

The body is cut roomy through the chest and seat. If you plan to wear it over a heavy layer, size up and check the chest measurement in the chart.

We have not stated the zip material, because it is not something we can confirm with certainty across production runs. What we can confirm is that it runs the full length of the front and parks at the top, rather than being a partial opening.
